Nelum is an older male who resides in Yala. Nelum is gentle, peaceful and often seen feeding on the water plants, including lotuses, at the Buttuwa tank.
He is easy to identify from the folds on his ears and protrusion on his spine.
Gemunu is a tusker in Yala who is now about 35 years of age. Gemunu was born and raised in Yala and continuous to live there. He made several appearances in the news after approaching Safari Jeeps looking for food as a result of people feeding him this way in the past.
Sashi is a young adult female from Gemunu’s natal herd. She was born in 1998 and is now 20 years old. Sashika is her adorable first-born, born in 2013.
Recognizable by a hole in his left ear and a tail with no hair, Sumedha is an elusive tusker based around the Minneriya National Park. He is sometimes spotted by the water hole, drinking and splashing about playfully.
Barana is a tusker who was born, raised and continues to live in the wilderness of the Kalawewa lake alongside the rest of his herd.
Nandimihra is a wild tusker who lives in Yala. He is a frequent roamer of the Sithulpawwa temple. He is remembered from his news appearances after briefly getting his tusk entangled in his trunk.
